The Korean Society for Biomaterials (KSBM) was founded in 1996 and aimed to support and expand the application for biomaterials by exchanging recent academic and technical information among researchers in the academy, clinics, and industry of medical society. The KSBM involves various professionals working individually and cooperatively in order to maximize their abilities for the biomedical application of biomaterials.
As of January 2020, the KSBM has approximately 3,300 members including 1,000 active members studying physics, chemistry, biology, medical sciences and engineering of biomaterials and their clinical applications.
The KSBM has also actively participated in and hosted many international conferences such as the 7th Asian Symposium on Biomedical Materials (ASBM-7) in 2006 and the 3rd Asian Biomaterials Congress (ABMC-3) in 2011.
The KSBM launched its official journal, Biomaterials Research, in 1997 and has been publishing over 30 scientific articles annually about biomaterials related to cells and tissue engineering, artificial organs, drug delivery system, biotechnology, nanotechnology, medical devices and evaluations of biomaterials and medical devices.
